Our Philosophy

Set in a climate of collaboration and internationalism, the Queensland Academies are underpinned by an ethos of challenge, innovation, creativity and enterprise. Through the study of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program students are given a global focus to their learning and discoveries.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program provides the curriculum framework for all the Queensland Academies. Encouraging a culture of collaboration the program affords the very best of outcomes for high achieving Year 10 to 12 students. The IB allows students to be assessed against strict, externally moderated standards. It also provides an unlimited number of students to be graded at each standard. In this atmosphere, like-minded students can come together free from the culture of being pitted against one other, to harness their giftedness collaboratively.

The teaching model at the Queensland Academies allows subjects to be studied through a blend of lecture, practical research and small group tutorials. Using the lecture mode to deliver content, other sessions can be focussed around design, analysis and evaluation - thereby creating innovative solutions and prototypes.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program is a world recognised credential - a reputation won through the rigorous curriculum and standards at its heart. Students find the program challenging with opportunities to extend their fields of inquiry.

Each Academy is committed to ensuring their high achieving students are supported to maximise their potential. The Queensland Academies have strategies and processes in place that allow teachers to mentor small groups, ensuring students progress to their ultimate goals. Teachers who individually mentor students are in close communication with parents.

A culture of learning pervades the Academies, and teachers and students acknowledge and celebrate their place in a community of learners.
